Located on the western branch of the Lynnhaven River (a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay), this new high-performing, healthy home will occupy the footprint of a 1966 brick ranch house that had fallen into disrepair and that could not support the owner’s physical needs and limitations. Fully compliant with Universal Design principles, the new residence will incorporate passive survivability through low-energy, bioclimatic design that includes both solar and wind energy systems. Of particular importance beyond supporting occupant needs, the project will entail ecologically restorative elements such as vegetated roofs, raingardens, new riparian buffer planting and re-establishment of submerged aquatic vegetation at the shoreline. The project is slated for a platinum rating under the LEED-H program.
