Virginia Living Museum Exhibit

Funded through a Federal matching grant from the National Park Service’s Chesapeake Gateways Network, the “Living Green In The Watershed” project entails a permanent exhibit demonstrating best practices in ecologically sound building and landscape design.  With 250,000+ annual visitors – most of whom are children — this environmental education center will demonstrate the integration and function of vegetated roofs, low energy/conservation design, solar energy harvest (passive and active), natural conditioning, rainwater collection, recycled/salvaged materials, modular building systems, rain gardens and Bayscaping.  Exhibits include the gamut of environmentally preferable building products and materials, as well as interactive technology such as carbon footprint and other environmental measurement and monitoring.  With an emphasis on capturing the attention of small children, the building utilizes simple, pure geometric forms and playful colors as well as open spaces to create a sense of amusement while serving a very intentional pedagogical purpose.
