Raterman River House

The owner built the existing foundation into a hillside above the Rappahanock river in the early 1980’s but the home was never completed, so the site has waited through the years.  The owner did an excellent job building the foundation—it is oriented precisely to solar south and has stood up to time and weather amazingly well. This has made Watershed’s job much easier. The new house is built on the old foundation, and focuses on an open floorplan taking full advantage of passive solar heating and the views through the trees to the river.
